The live loads of ASCE/SEI 7-22 Chapter 4 — the loads produced by the use and occupancy of the structure, and how far they may be reduced. Choose an occupancy by the name Table 4.3-1 prints, choose what to do with the table’s values, and the page returns the minimum uniformly distributed live load Lo, the minimum concentrated live load where the table gives one, and the load to design for — the floor reduction of §4.7, Equation (4.7-1), or the roof reduction of §4.8, Equation (4.8-1). Reduction is the part worth getting right: the table itself answers whether a reduction is permitted for each occupancy, and where it says no — a live load over 100 lb/ft2 (§4.7.3), a passenger vehicle garage (§4.7.4), a place of public assembly (§4.7.5), a helipad (§4.11.1) — the page refuses with that clause rather than reducing by a lesser amount. The tributary area AT, the element factor KLL and the roof rise F are optional: a card cannot state which reduction you are asking for, so leave a value the reduction does not need blank, and the engine refuses — naming the field and the clause — when the reduction asked for does need one. Press Compute the live load when the card is complete.
The occupancy, and what to do with its Table 4.3-1 load
The values a reduction needs — leave blank where they are not used
2 · Solution
No solution yet — choose an occupancy and what to do with its Table 4.3-1 values in the card above and press Compute the live load. This card stays empty until a solution is computed, and it is emptied again the moment any input changes, so a displayed solution always belongs to the inputs on screen.
